Monday 28th: We depart this morning travelling to Southern Scotland, past Glasgow, alongside the shores of Loch Lomond and over rugged and desolate Rannoch Moor to arrive Fort William late afternoon.
Tuesday 29th: Spend today at leisure in Fort William, its setting is dramatic on the shores of Loch Linnhe and under the mighty bulk of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. Attractions within the town include the West Highland Museum, which houses a large collection of Jacobite memorabilia.
Wednesday 30th: This morning we join the Scotrail train on a round trip of 84 miles to Mallaig. Regarded as one of the world’s great rail journeys, we follow in the footsteps of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express. From views of mighty Ben Nevis the memorable journey takes us to Glenfinnanand over the famous 21 arch Horseshoe viaduct, the picturesque silver sands of Morar to Mallaig, a busy fishing port and also departure point for the ferry to the Isle of Skye. We have time for a look around the town before we catch the return train to Fort William. Packed lunch provided.
Thursday 31st: Today we enjoy a spectacular day out to Spean Bridge, with the Commando Memorial, Loch Garry with stunning views, along Glen Moriston to Loch Ness and Fort Augustus, where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. We have time to explore, maybe visit the Caledonian Canal visitor centre, bfore we return along Loch Lochy to Fort William for a light lunch.
Friday 1st: We leave our hotel after breakfast and commence our journey home via the Lake District where we will take a break and have time for lunch in Kendal before continuing home arriving late afternoon.
