We visit Galway, with brightly painted houses, cobbled streets and where fiddle music fills the high street. Our tour is based in Athlone, perched on the banks of Ireland’s longest river, the Shannon.

Your Itinerary

Monday 14th: We travel across Anglesey to Holyhead for our crossing to Dublin and then continue to our hotel for check-in and where we stay for the next four nights.

Tuesday 15th: After breakfast we travel west to the vibrant, colourful city of Galway - named 2020 European Capital of Culture! Galway is an exciting, lively town with something to interest everyone – from beautiful colours of its portside houses, to the infectious rhythms of the traditional Irish music found in almost every pub and bar. Sit and people watch at the bustling Eyre Square. Marvel at the Spanish Arch and exquisite Augustinian Church.

Wednesday 16th: Today we travel north and visit the town of Carrick-on-Shannon for free time before we head to Strokestown Park and the Famine Museum. This grand Georgian Palladian mansion still features its original furnishings and fabrics, offering a glimpse into times past. Strokestown Park is also home to the National Famine Museum and acres of historic gardens and woodlands.

Thursday 17th: Today we have a day at leisure in Athlone exploring the town, which is home to Sean’s Bar – Ireland’s oldest pub. We will also visit impressive 13th century Athlone Castle, reopened in 2012 after extensive renovations; today the castle has been transformed into a multi-sensory experience in which family-friendly multimedia displays and interactive games guide visitors through its halls. The great Siege of Athlone is relivedin a 360º cinematic experience, transporting visitors to the centre of the 1691 battle.

Friday 18th: After breakfast we return to Dublin city centre for free time for lunch before our return sailing to Holyhead and home.
