Nostalgic Trails & Wonderful Trails

Escape to Northumberland, one of the most picturesque areas of countryside
in the whole of England including the most haunted castle in the country, a
tranquil river cruise, nearby majestic Durham, while we take in the region’s
unspoiled beauty on a full day coach guided tour of some of the region's hidden
gems.

Your Itinerary

Thursday 23rd: We make your way to the hotel located in the Seaton Burn countryside
arriving in time to settle in with tea and a delicious pastry before dinner.

Friday 24th: This morning, your specially appointed Blue Badge Guide takes you on your
coach guided tour beginning with a 1 mile causeway crossing to Holy Island. After a hearty
lunch (at guests’ own cost) we proceed back to the mainland and arrive at the Heatherslaw
Light Railway for a 20 minute single journey on “the most northerly steam railway in
England” running along the banks of the River Till, giving you stunning views of the
Northumberland countryside. Alight at Etal and proceed on the brief journey to peaceful
Ford village, home to the Hudson Heritage "Best Hidden Gem" awarded Lady Waterford
Hall. (Crossings to the island are dependent on tides forecast on the day. Occasionally it is
necessary to do the tour in reverse, visiting the island in the afternoon. On very rare
occasions it is not possible to cross due to tidal conditions we will rearrange the itinerary.)

Saturday 25th: Set off aboard the Prince Bishop River Cruiser on the beautiful River
Wear on a spectacular hour long scenic cruise that passes by a great many of the city's
most celebrated sights from the unique perspective aboard a handsome vessel on the
charming River Wear.

Sunday 26th: Today we visit Beamish Living Museum, a world famous open air museum
which tells the story of life in North East England in Georgian Victorian and Edwardian
times. Unlike ordinary museums, Beamish displays its objects, machinery and furniture in
realistic surroundings with trained staff in period costume ready to answer your questions.

Monday 27th: After breakfast we leave our hotel and begin our journey home.
