National Trusts of Lancashire

Lancashire is a county of contrasting landscapes, diverse heritage and plentiful food and drink, covering 3,075 km2 of England’s North West. There is something for everyone, with countryside, canals, coast and towns. Our new tour visits two of the countys National Trust properties, the 16th Century Tudor manor, Rufford Old Hall and the magnificent Gawthorpe Hall.

Your Itinerary

Tuesday 28th: We travel to our hotel via Southport which has beautiful beaches, stunning
architecture, one of the oldest piers in the UK along with a superb choice of shops. Tea,
coffee and treats will be served on our arrival at our hotel.

Wednesday 29th: Today we head to our second National Trust property that is the
magnificent Gawthorpe Hall. This Elizabethan gem, located in the heart of industrial
Lancashire, houses the North Wests’ largest collection of portraits on loan from the
National Portrait Gallery. This afternoon we visit Skipton with its awardwinning
Market (voted as the UK's Best Small Outdoor Market 2017) and plays a huge part
in the life of the town.

Thursday 30th: This morning we head to Rufford Old Hall, a 16th century Tudor manor
with a unique ‘hammerbeam roof’. Marvel at gothic revival furnishings, armour, tapestries,
stained glass, intricate furniture and a stunning carved oak screen over 500 years old.
Stroll through peaceful Victorian and Edwardian gardens in one of the lowest lying National
Trust gardens in England and explore the rumours of Shakespeare’s youth. In the
afternoon we spend in Lytham & St Annes-on-Sea which are worlds apart in both character
and atmosphere. The dual seaside towns are nestled along a picturesque stretch of
coastline lined with well tended lawns, a boating lake and pretty parks. Enjoy a expansive
sandy beach, Victorian pier, historic windmill and stylish independent shops.

Friday 31st: We leave after breakfast and return home via one of Lancashire’s famous
mills – Oswaldtwistle the award-winning Shopping Village in Lancashire has something to
amaze, charm and intrigue visitors of all ages.

Please Note - National Trust Members must present their card on arrival to receive free entry to
