Thursday 16th: Depart from your home area travelling to Letchworth, arriving late
afternoon at the MercureLetchworth Hall Hotel. Tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival.
Friday 17th: After a leisurely start this morning, we journey to the Wimpole Estate, passing
through St Neots en-route. The Estate hosts an impressive Mansion with gardens and
home farm. The Mansion’s rooms contrast with beautiful and unexpected Georgian
interiors and is truly stunning. Perhaps stroll around the colourful parterre garden and
wander through the Pleasure Grounds to the walled garden. Later this afternoon, we
depart heading past Royston to the market town of Hitchin where we have an afternoon
stop to end our day.
Saturday 18th: The day out begins with a drive to Newmarket – Home of Horseracing.
Here we visit the National Horseracing Centre and learn all about the history of ‘The Sport
of Kings’ and perhaps the Packard Galleries of Sporting Art. Later, we drive to the historic
City of Ely, an ideal place with a splendid array of medieval buildings and narrow streets.
Ely is the perfect place to enjoy lunch or visit its main attraction, the magnificent Cathedral,
known as ‘The Ship of the Fens’. Today is also market day in Ely.
Sunday 19th: This morning we head to the university city of Cambridge where we board
our chauffeured punt through the back waters of Cambridge. Our guide will not only guide
the punt along the River Cam, but will also ensure we see the highlights of Cambridge’s
College buildings. To compliment this truly English setting, strawberries and cream will be
served as you glide by the many college buildings. There is then time for you to explore the
university city of Cambridge at your own pace.
Monday 20th: After breakfast we leave and head for home.
