Your Itinerary

Monday 2nd: Depart from your home area in the morning for Cumbria, arriving during the afternoon at Damson Dene Hotel.

Tuesday 3rd: Today we drive to Bowness, delightfully located on the shores of Lake Windermere. We have time to look around before we catch the ‘steamer’ from Bowness Pier for the relaxing sail to the southern tip of the lake at Lakeside. From here we visit genteel Grange-over-Sands, with spectacular views across Morecambe Bay.

Wednesday 4th: We begin with a drive to Sedbergh, England’s book town, where we take a short break. Moving on we cross Ravenstonedale Common to Kirkby Stephen and Brough on the way to the former county town of Westmoreland, Appleby. Here we have our lunch break and chance to look around the historic town. This afternoon we ride along the shore of Ullswater, said to be the most beautiful lake of them all. We halt awhile in Glenridding before climbing over rugged Kirkstone Pass.

Thursday 5th: ‘High Adventure’! The ‘Mountain Goat’ minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go. This is a wonderful day, taking in the mountain passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the desolate Duddon Valley, awesome Hardknott Pass. See the lonely Roman Fort as we descend into Eskdale for a ride on L’al Ratty – The Ravenglass and Eskdake Miniature Railway, before seeing Wastwater and then visiting Muncaster - Castle Grounds and World Owl Trust. From here we return via the Coniston fells and Coniston Water.

Friday 6th: After breakfast we leave our hotel and travel to Kendal with its castle ruins, quaint cobbled streets, antique shops and the chance to purchase the famous ‘Kendal Mint Cake’. We leave after lunch for our journey home.
