Torquay Queen of the English Riviera
This delightful tour is set in the heart of the English Riviera, Torquay. We explore local history and heritage whilst soaking up the sights along the river Tamar. We enjoy a steam train ride, further cruising and explore the coastal towns of Teignmouth and Dawlish.
Your Itinerary
Monday 17th: We leave home this morning travelling south to Devon, arriving later this afternoon at the Livermead Cliff hotel.
Tuesday 18th: Our day begins with a drive to Plymouth where we sail from the historic Barbican and enjoy a cruise on the river Tamar, viewing the warships and dockyards. We have time to explore the city and obtain lunch before we head north to Okehampton and make our way across Dartmoor to Bovey Tracey and back to Torquay.
Wednesday 19th: We begin with a drive to Moretonhampstead and the House of Marbles for a coffee stop. This is a working glass and games factory making an unusual range of traditional games, puzzles, toys, marbles and glassware for many years. Meander round the old kilns and old pottery buildings, browse in the gift shop. From here we make our way to the coast, Teignmouth and delightful Dawlish. We spend time here with chance to explore and obtain lunch before we head back to Torquay.
Thursday 20th: Today we join the Paignton and Dartmouth Railway for a steam train ride to Kingswear, with spectacular views out to sea and over the river Dart. Here we join the ferry to Dartmouth before taking a circular hour-long cruise along the river and estuary. We have some free time in Dartmouth before the return train from Kingswear to Paignton.
Friday 21st: We leave after breakfast and begin our drive home, travelling through Devon, Somerset and Gloucestershire. We will take a break for lunch before completing the final leg of the journey.
