Black Forest Rail & Sail
Our base is surrounded by the rolling hills of the Black Forest. Lush meadows, pine clad hills, rushing rivers and traditional chocolate box villages are all around us. Our tour includes two scenic train journeys, a boat trip on Lake Titisee and a guided visit of the Black Forest Museum. Our final day takes us into France and the beautiful town of Colmar.
Your Itinerary
Friday 26th: We leave home early this morning, travelling to Dover for the short channel crossing to France. We continue our journey to our overnight stop in Laon. Saturday 27th: Departing after breakfast, we make our way through France before crossing into Germany, arriving at our hotel with time to settle in. Sunday 28th: This morning we make our way to beautiful Titisee for a sightseeing cruise on the lake. We then move on to the Pig Tail Steam Railway between Blumberg and Weizen, enjoy the stunning scenery along the many twists and turns. Monday 29th: This morning we visit nearby Freiburg with its morning market set on the cobbled cathedral square. Later we return to Schallstadt with free time, to discover the old town with its half-timbered houses and romantic narrow streets and alleyways, take a leisurely stroll along the river Kinzig. Tuesday 30th: We begin the day with a visit to the old walled town of Villingen and join the Black Forest Railway for a journey including loops, tunnels and a high viaduct. After our train ride we enjoy a guided visit of the Black Forest Open Air Museum to find out more about the history and culture of the region. Wednesday 31st: Today we visit the wonderfully preserved town of Colmar, the capital of Alsatian wine. With a ‘country town’ feel and vast pedestrianized zone, it’s delightfully easy to explore the beautiful historical centre and enjoy strolls along the leafy canal paths. Thursday 01st: Time to commence the journey home, we leave after breakfast and head for our overnight hotel in France. Friday 02nd: We make our way to Calais and the channel crossing to Dover, where we continue the journey, arriving home later this afternoon.
