Ring of Beara - Ireland's Best Kept Secret
Expect breathtaking scenery, wild seascapes and colourful villages on this scenic tour of County Cork and County Kerry as we travel along the spectacular Ring of Beara. We also visit beautiful Cape Clear Island and spend time at the Skibbereen Heritage Centre, Molly Gallivan’s Cottage and stunning Bantry House & Gardens.
Your Itinerary
Sunday 11th: Leaving home this morning, our holiday begins with a journey to Fishguard where we board the afternoon ferry to Rosslare. On arrival we continue to Treacy’s Hotel Waterford for dinner and an overnight stay. Monday 12th: We leave Waterford after breakfast and make our way to Cobh, a stunning harbour town, steeped in history, this was the last port of called for the Titanic. Here we visit the Titanic Experience, located in the centre, in the original White Star booking office for an immersive experience of the passengers who boarded the ill-fated liner. Later we continue to Bantry Bay and the Maritime Hotel. Tuesday 13th: This morning, we visit Bantry House & Gardens, a family home for the past 300 years. We have free time to explore the house and stunning formal gardens. This afternoon we have time to explore Bantry at leisure. A stunning town with semi-tropical flowers, palm trees, high mountain ridges and cascading mountain streams. Wednesday 14th: Today we start with a scenic drive along the Atlantic Ocean, through the rugged and spectacular Beara Peninsula, Ireland’s best kept secret, full of lush natural beauty, wild landscapes and unspoilt seascapes. Starting from Kenmare, we take in historic, colourful and friendly villages, including Adrigole and Castletownbere, where we have time for lunch before continuing to Healy Pass which offers spectacular views of Kenmare Bay to the north and Bantry Bay to the south. This afternoon, we visit Molly Gallivan’s Cottage & Traditional Farm, where we enjoy a guided tour with tea/coffee and scones. Thursday 15th: This morning, we head to Baltimore in County Cork from where we take a 40-minute ferry to Cape Clear Island. Ireland’s southern-most inhabited island with a population of just 130. The journey offers splendid views and the chance to see any passing seals and dolphins. On arrival we enjoy a 1-hour minibus tour of the small rustic island, taking in its rich history and sites of interest before we take the ferry back to the stunning fishing village of Baltimore. Here we enjoy free time for lunch before we head to Skibbereen Heritage Centre to enjoy a 1-hour guided tour of the Famine Exhibition, where we learn about the significance of Skibbereen in terms of Famine heritage. Friday 16th: Leaving the hotel after breakfast, sit back and relax as we make our way to Dublin to board the afternoon ferry to Holyhead. On arrival we continue to home, arriving later in the day.
