Christmas in Boppard

Saturday 21st: Our journey begins this morning as we head to York for some time to explore the city and have lunch before we continue to Hull and our overnight ferry crossing to Rotterdam. You can enjoy great entertainment and delicious food options onboard (meals on the ferry are not included) before settling into your cabin for a good night’s sleep. Sunday 22nd: On arrival in Rotterdam, we continue our journey into Germany and to Aachen where we enjoy an extended lunch stop with time to soak up the atmosphere and sample some regional delights at the famous Christmas market. We leave early afternoon and follow the banks of the Rhine to the Ebertor Hotel, Boppard. Monday 23rd: Today we take the short journey to the small city of Koblenz. Here you will find the Altstadt with quaint little squares, maybe take a ride on the Koblenz cable car for stunning views of the city, visit the Deutsches Eck where the mighty rivers of the Rhine and Mosel meet, visit St Castor Basilica, the oldest church in the city and enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants. Tuesday 24th: This morning, we take a short walk to Romer Kastell. The remains of the Roman Fort surround the town centre and are the best example of a Roman fort in Germany. We return to the hotel for lunch, this afternoon is free to explore Boppard. Visit the Altstadt in the pretty historic centre and the Romanesque church on Marktplatz, wander the streets and alleyways with medieval half-timbered houses. This evening, we enjoy a Festive German Christmas Eve buffet dinner with sparkling wine. Wednesday 25th: Merry Christmas! Relax after breakfast and enjoy some free time in Boppard before a traditional 3 course Christmas Festive Buffet Lunch. This afternoon we take a trip on the Hunsruck Mountain Train to Emmelshausen. The trainline opened in 1908, and travels through breathtaking scenery, over viaducts and through tunnels. We meet the coach in Emmelshausen and travel to Cacilienhoe for a glass of warming mulled wine. We return to the hotel in time to freshen up, dinner this evening is a Christmas Buffet followed by dancing in the Klosterkeller. Thursday 26th: Enjoy a relaxing morning in Boppard, after lunch at the hotel we embark on a scenic two-and-a-half-hour cruise along the Rhine. We travel through the picturesque countryside of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley towards the legendary Loreley, passing numerous medieval castles along the way. Friday 27th: Time to say ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to our hosts and begin our journey. Heading north, past Cologne and into Holland where we make a stop in the pretty town of Valkenburg, famed as the No. 1 Christmas town of the Netherlands. In addition to the atmospheric lighting and decoration of the city, the famous caves offer an absolute highlight; two underground Christmas markets. Later we continue to Rotterdam for our overnight crossing to Hull. Saturday 28th: We disembark after breakfast, our journey takes us via Liverpool, with time for lunch and a browse of the sales or museums before we continue, arriving home later in the day.
