Monday 11th: We leave home this morning and make our way towards Durham and the Redworth Hall Hotel, arriving later this afternoon.
Tuesday 12th: We begin today with a cruise on the Teesside Princess. We glide through the picturesque countryside on the banks of the river Tees until we reach the impressive market town of Yarm, with its beautiful railway viaduct, cobbled streets and an array of places to shop and enjoy lunch. This afternoon we are transported back to the Victorian era with a visit to Preston Park, absorb the atmosphere and browse the traditional shops and blacksmiths.
Wednesday 13th: Beamish the world-famous living museum is our first stop today. We travel from the 1820’s to the 1950’s where the history of Northeast England is brought back to life. From pit villages to farms, Pockerley Hall and the recreated town with the fabulous tramway. Our day ends with a delightful scenic ride on the Weardale Railway.
Thursday 14th: We are joined by a guide today who will take us on a journey through railway history. Beginning with a visit to the Head of Steam, a newly restored centre commemorating 200 years of rail travel. We later move onto Shildon and Locomotion, home to many famous locomotives.
Friday 15th: We leave the hotel after breakfast and embark on the first leg of our journey. After taking a break for lunch, we continue homewards, arriving later this afternoon.
