Monday 01st: Leaving home this morning, our holiday begins as we make our way to Yorkshire, arriving at the hotel in time to settle in before this evening’s meal.
Tuesday 02nd: We begin with a drive to the pleasant market town of Settle, here we board the diesel train and embark on one of England’s most scenic rail journeys, on the Settle to Carlisle line. We cross the spectacular Ribblehead Viaduct and stop at Dent, the highest mainline station in England, before continuing to Kirkby Stephen. Later we travel by coach to Hawes, main town of Wensleydale. After lunch we join the Wensleydale Railway for a 40-minute journey, through the pretty countryside.
Wednesday 03rd: Gateway to the Dales – Skipton is our first stop today; the main street houses the well-known market and Skipton Castle stands proudly at the top of the street. From Skipton we make our way to Haworth, home of the famous Bronte sisters, where little has changed since they lived in the Parsonage. Later we enjoy a steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley, following the locations of The Railway Children.
Thursday 04th: Our day begins with a leisurely visit to Bolton Abbey, set in a beautiful location alongside the river Wharfe. Later we continue to the Dales village of Grassington, the cobbled streets, diminutive marketplace, array of speciality shops, quaint byways and alleyways make it a place in which to linger.
Friday 05th: Time to make our way home, leaving after breakfast we travel towards a lunch break before continuing to arrive later in the day.
