Gems of Northumbria
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply
seeking a scenic escape, the Gems of Northumbria tour
promises unforgettable moments and hidden treasures at
every turn. Alnwick Castle and Garden, Beamish Living Museum,
Holy Island and vibrant Newcastle are all to be enjoyed on this
excellent tour.

Your Itinerary

Sunday 24th: Our holiday begins as we depart home this morning and make
our way to the attractive city of Newcastle, arriving at our hotel with time to
settle in before this evening’s meal.
Monday 25th: Today we travel to historic Alnwick. We visit the magnificent
Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family dating back
to 1309. There is much to see, including the sumptuous State Rooms, the
beautifully landscaped Alnwick Garden, the infamous Poison Garden and
one of the largest tree houses in the world.
Tuesday 26th: We have a leisurely day in Newcastle, as the hotel is right in
the heart of the city, everything is within easy reach. Indulge in some shopping,
visit the Great North Museum and take a stroll along the Quayside and River
Tyne. You will find a vast array of eateries when in need of refreshments.
Wednesday 27th: This morning, we head the short distance to Beamish,
the world-famous living museum of the North. Here you can experience life in
Northeast England during the 1820s - 1950s. Board one of the trams or trains,
visit the traditional sweet shop, explore the wartime farm and disappear into
the historic mine at the pit village.
Thursday 28th: Today’s excursion takes us across the causeway to Holy
Island and the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle. We return later to Bamburgh,
maybe visit the majestic castle on the beach, or the Grace Darling Museum.
Please note: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by
tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion.
Friday 29th: Departing after breakfast, we begin our journey. After stopping
for lunch we continue, arriving home later in the day.
