Romantic Journeys of Yorkshire

Romantic Journeys of Yorkshire
Yorkshire’s glorious scenery, quaint market towns and friendly
villages are all captured on this popular tour. A ride on the
spectacular Settle to Carlisle Railway line, a visit to Howarth,
home of the Bronte sisters and a rail journey through the
Worth Valley, best known as The Railway Children location,
are all featured on this splendid holiday.

Your Itinerary

Monday 11th: Leaving home this morning, our holiday begins as we make
our way to Yorkshire. We will arrive at the hotel with time to settle in before
this evening’s meal.
Tuesday 12th: We begin with a drive to the pleasant North Yorkshire
market town of Settle. Here we board the diesel train and embark on one of
England’s most scenic rail journeys along the Settle and Carlisle Railway line.
We cross the famous Ribblehead Viaduct and stop at Dent, the highest
mainline station in England, before continuing to Kirkby Stephen. We rejoin
the coach for the short journey into Hawes, the main town of Wensleydale.
After lunch, we join the Wensleydale Railway for a 40-minute journey
through the pretty countryside.
Wednesday 13th: Gateway to the Dales – Skipton is our first stop today.
The main street houses a well-known market, and Skipton Castle stands
proudly at the top of the street. From Skipton, we make our way to Haworth,
home of the famous Bronte sisters and their notorious brother. Little has
changed in the village since they lived at the Parsonage. Later we enjoy a
steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley, following the locations
used in the film ‘The Railway Children’.
Thursday 14th: Our day begins with a visit to Bolton Abbey, set in a
beautiful location alongside the River Wharfe. Later we continue to the
Dales village of Grassington. The cobbled streets, diminutive marketplace
and many quaint byways and alleyways make it a place to linger.
Friday 15th: We leave the hotel this morning and travel towards our lunch
stop. Thereafter we continue our journey, arriving home later this afternoon.
