Monday 13th: Our holiday to the Lake District begins this morning as
we make our way towards Cumbria, arriving late afternoon at Newby
Bridge Hotel.
Tuesday 14th: After breakfast, we travel to Hawkeshead with its delightful
cottages and cobbles, then on to Ambleside. After enjoying some free time
here, we journey to Keswick on the banks of Ullswater. Considered the capital
of the North Lakes, the town has a range of shops, galleries, and places to
explore.
Wednesday 15th: Our first stop of the day is the small market town of
Kirby Lonsdale. We continue on to Skipton, known as the ‘Gateway to the
Dales’. The High Street leads up to the church, behind which you see the
impressive 900-year-old castle and Skipton Woods. Today is also market day
so you have a chance to grab a bargain or some local goods. We return to the
hotel via a stop in Settle, one of the most picturesque towns in Ribblesdale
with its narrow streets and views of the 300ft Castleberg Crag which
dominates the town.
Thursday 16th: After breakfast, we journey to Kendal with its castle ruins,
quaint cobbled streets, antique shops, and the chance to purchase the
famous ‘Kendal Mint Cake’. Later we leave Kendal and head to Bowness-on-
Windermere – a bustling tourist hotspot with a selection of independent
shops and interesting museums.
Friday 17th: After breakfast, we leave and begin our journey home.
After taking a break for lunch, we continue, arriving later in the day.
