Monday 13th: We depart from home this morning and travel towards
Lincolnshire where we will arrive later this afternoon, with time to settle
in before this evening’s meal.
Tuesday 14th: Our first stop today is Oakham, with stylish boutiques, and
exclusive little gift shops. Oakham is the county town of Rutland, England’s
smallest county yet home to one of Europe’s largest man-made lakes, a
haven for wildlife. Later, we head along the edge of Rutland Water to enjoy
a relaxing cruise on the ‘Rutland Belle’.
Wednesday 15th: For our first outing today, we head to Melton Mowbray
for market day. The town has a royal heritage that goes back to Richard the
Lionheart and is home to Stilton, Red Leicester Cheese, and of course the
famous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. This afternoon we head to Belvoir Castle,
step back in time at this stunning Regency castle, perched high above the
Vale of Belvoir. Explore its opulent rooms, beautiful gardens, and enjoy
breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
Thursday 16th: We spend this morning in the historic city of Lincoln. Wander
its cobbled streets, visit the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral – once the tallest
building in the world – and explore the medieval Lincoln Castle, home to a rare
copy of the Magna Carta. After lunch we travel to Newark on Trent, known
for its rich history, especially from the English Civil War era. It was a Royalist
stronghold and has a pretty impressive ruined castle right by the River Trent.
Friday 17th: Leaving the hotel after breakfast, we travel towards our lunch
stop. The journey continues this afternoon, we arrive home later in the day.
