Ireland's Hidden Treasure - The Fermanagh Lakelands

Ireland's Hidden Treasure - The Fermanagh Lakelands
Discover one of Northern Ireland’s best-kept secrets a serene landscape of crystal-clear
lakes, wooded islands, and tranquil peninsulas that seem to float between earth and sky.
This idyllic retreat unfolds amid the captivating Fermanagh Lakelands, where time slows
and each day brings a new moment of quiet wonder.

Holiday Highlights

The adventure begins with a leisurely afternoon ferry crossing to Dublin. After disembarking, we
travel through the lush countryside to the welcoming Trim Castle Hotel, nestled in the
shadow of Ireland’s largest Anglo-Norman castle. The following morning, we set off through the
ancient and scenic counties of Meath, Cavan, and Monaghan, winding our way north toward
the tranquil County Fermanagh, a land of mirror-like waters and emerald shorelines.
Here, our base is an elegant 18th-century manor house, an enchanting haven of period
charm and modern comfort. Over the next few days, immerse yourself in the
region’s beauty and history. At the Blessingbourne Country Estate, the lady of the
manor herself welcomes us for a guided tour of her family’s historic home and lush gardens.
Wander through the lovingly preserved rooms, rich with stories of generations past, before
indulging in a delightful serving of afternoon tea and homemade cakes, a quintessential country treat.
Another day brings us to the Ulster American Folk Park, one of Ireland’s most engaging
open-air museums. Here, the past comes vividly to life as you follow the emigrant trail from rural
Ulster cottages to the bustling ports and pioneering settlements of America. Costumed characters,
authentic buildings, and living history displays paint a moving picture of courage, hope, and discovery.
We’ll also visit Belleek Pottery, a jewel of Irish craftsmanship. Established in 1857, this world-renowned
pottery continues to create exquisite pieces of Parian China. Watch master artisans at work and browse
the beautiful collections that have graced homes and palaces for over 150 years.
A special highlight awaits, a serene dinner cruise upon the still waters of Lough Erne. As
the sun sets over the Lakelands, dine on local cuisine while the golden light dances on the
waves. It’s a magical evening of gentle music, warm companionship, and breathtaking views,
the kind of memory that lingers long after you’ve returned home.
The journey continues with a full day in Londonderry (Derry), Ireland’s only completely
intact walled city. Walk the 17th-century ramparts, explore centuries of fascinating
history, and feel the pulse of a modern, creative city that celebrates both its heritage and its
vibrant present. Finally, we bid farewell to the Lakelands, our hearts full and our minds refreshed by the
stillness, the stories, and the soul of this enchanting region, a corner of Ireland that feels
like a secret shared just between friends.
