Scotland's Twin Shores - Castles, Coastlines & Island Charm

Scotland's Twin Shores - Castles, Coastlines & Island Charm
Discover the distinct character of Scotland’s coastlines on this delightful two-centre
holiday, where the untamed romance of the west meets the genteel beauty of the east.
The wild and rugged west coast enchants with its dramatic landscapes and moody charm,
while the east coast welcomes, with sweeping beaches, picture-perfect fishing villages,
and centuries-old castles. On this delightful tour, we experience both coastlines.

Holiday Highlights

We travel to Wemyss Bay for a short ferry crossing to Rothesay, the main town on the Isle
of Bute. Our base for two nights is the elegant Glenburn Hotel, perched in an elevated position
with sweeping views over the Firth of Clyde and the Kyles of Bute. Despite its compact size, Bute
offers a surprising variety of landscapes, from lush, rolling farmland to heather-clad moorland
and secluded sandy beaches. During our stay, we enjoy a scenic tour of the island,
including photo stops at Scalpsie Bay and Ettrick Bay, two of Bute’s most stunning
coastal spots. A highlight of the day is a visit to the magnificent Mount Stuart House, an
extravagant Victorian Gothic mansion set in 300 acres of landscaped grounds, rich in history,
architectural drama, and horticultural beauty. We return to the mainland and journey across
Scotland with a stop at Glamis Castle, one of Scotland’s most impressive historic homes and
the childhood residence of the late Queen Mother. After a guided tour of the castle and its
gardens, we continue to the charming town of Montrose, where we spend two nights at the
welcoming Park Hotel, just a short stroll from the High Street and the beach. Our east coast
experience includes a visit to the elegant House of Dun, a Georgian country estate brought to life
by costumed guides who offer fascinating insights into 18th-century life. Later, there is
time to explore Montrose at your own pace, perhaps enjoy the beach, visit the local
museum, or simply soak up the town’s relaxed atmosphere.
